History of Takeo

Takeo may be the single most historically significant province in Cambodia as the Angkor Borei area is widely considered the heartland of the ancient Funan and early Khmer civilizations. Settlements here date back over 2,000 years. Phnom Da rising dramatically from flat rice paddies was a pre-Angkorian royal temple site. Angkor Borei was among the earliest urban centers in Southeast Asia and Takeo thus holds the very roots of Khmer identity.
