History of Kampong Thom


Kampong Thom is home to Sambor Prei Kuk, the ancient capital of the Chenla Kingdom that predated Angkor by several centuries. These temples dating from the 6th and 7th centuries were designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2017. The province was at the crossroads of the Khmer Empire's rise and was an important religious and administrative center.
