History of Kampong Speu

Kampong Speu holds deep historical significance as the site of Samrong Sen, one of the most important prehistoric archaeological sites in Southeast Asia with evidence of human habitation dating back 4,000 years. The Cardamom Mountains bordering the province were used as refuge by resistance fighters and later Khmer Rouge remnants until the late 1990s.
